There are different historical records of Ziying's origin. The common saying is that he is the son of Fu Su. Another theory is that he is the brother of the First Emperor or the Second Emperor. In 207 BC, Zhao Gao forced to kill the Second Emperor. He believed that the six kingdoms had been restored and Qin was in decline, so it was not appropriate to call him emperor anymore, so he named Ziying King of Qin instead. Ziying conspired with his two sons and the eunuch Han Tan to refuse to go to the ancestral temple to receive the seal, saying he was ill. When Zhao Gao came to invite him in person, he assassinated him in the Zhai Palace and barred his three tribes. On the forty-sixth day of his reign, Liu Bang broke through Yaoguan and advanced to Bashang. Ziying surrendered beside Zhi Road with a plain chariot and a white horse, holding the emperor's seal and talisman. More than a month later, Xiang Yu entered the pass, killed Ziying and the Qin clan, and burned the Xianyang palace.
