Posthumous title: Emperor Shang

Li Zhongmao is the fourth son of Zhongzong. He was first named King of Beihai and later changed to King Wen. In June 710, when Zhongzong collapsed, Empress Wei did not announce the funeral secretly. Instead, she mobilized government troops to garrison the capital. She and Zong Chuke and others deleted the arrangement of the posthumous edict that the prime minister Li Dan would advise on political affairs. Then he established Li Zhongmao as emperor, changed the Yuan Dynasty to Tang Long, and ruled as regent himself, trying to imitate Wu Zetian. More than ten days later, Li Longji and Tai Pinggongzhu launched the Tang Long coup and killed Queen Wei's party. Li Zhongmao was forced to give way to his uncle Ruizong, but was still demoted to King Wen, and later changed the title to King Xiang. He died in Fangzhou in 714.
