Tai Geng is the son of Tai Jia and the younger brother of Wo Ding. He succeeded Wo Ding after his death, and "Historical Records" recorded him as "Emperor Tai Geng", leaving no specific deeds. The oracle bone inscriptions call him "Da Geng", and he belongs to the same direct line of ancestors as Da Yi, Da Ding and Da Jia. He was worshiped more solemnly. The subsequent King Shang all came from his descendants. After Tai Geng's death, his sons Xiao Jia, Yong Ji, and Tai Wu became kings one after another.

PoliticsBrother and brother
After Wo Ding died, his younger brother Tai Gen succeeded him. After that, Tai Geng's three sons, Xiao Jia, Yong Ji, and Tai Wu, became kings in turn, and brother succession became a common inheritance method in the early Shang Dynasty.
CultureListed as direct lineal king
In the oracle bone inscriptions, Tai Geng is called "Da Geng", and he is listed as a direct line ancestor in merchants' sacrifices. His status is higher than that of Wo Ding and other collateral line ancestors, which reflects the patriarchal concept of merchants to distinguish between direct line and collateral line.
