Xiao Xin is the son of Zu Ding and the younger brother of Pan Geng. He succeeded Pan Geng after his death. "Historical Records" says that during the reign of Xiao Xin, when the Yin Dynasty declined again, the people missed Pan Geng, so they wrote three chapters of "Pan Geng"; this is different from the statement in "Shang Shu Preface" that the three chapters were written by Pan Geng when he moved the capital. After Xiao Xin's death, his younger brother Xiao Yi came to the throne. The Xia–Shang–Zhou Chronology Project estimates that Pan Geng, Xiao Xin, and Xiao Yi lived for about fifty years in total.
