- "Historical Records" was written by Geng Ding. The inscriptions called Kang Ding and Kang Zu Ding.
Kang Ding was the son of Zu Jia and the younger brother of Lin Xin. He was named "Geng Ding" in "Historical Records" and "Kang Ding" or "Kang Zu Ding" in inscriptions. It is generally believed that "Geng" in "Historical Records" is a mistake for "Kang". He succeeded Lin Xin after his death, but there is no record of his deeds in "Historical Records". After Kang Ding, King Shang was succeeded by his father after his father died, and the tradition of brother's succession ended. The Xia–Shang–Zhou Chronology Project estimates that the four kings from Zu Geng to Kang Ding lived for about 44 years, ending in 1148 BC. After Kang Ding's death, his son Wu Yi ascended the throne.
