He defeated the coalition forces of Haidu and Duwa many times in the Chenghai area. He made outstanding military achievements and won the hearts of the army. Chengzong died of illness in 1307. Queen Bo Luhan wanted to establish King Ananda of Anxi, and the right prime minister Ha Lahasun secretly sent an envoy to welcome the Khayshan brothers. Khayshan and his younger brother Ayurbarwada went to Dadu and Xanadu successively. In May 1307, they ascended the throne in Xanadu and changed the Yuan Dynasty to Dadu.

After he came to the throne, he generously rewarded kings and meritorious officials, resulting in huge expenditures and an empty treasury. Therefore, he established the Shangshu Province in 1309, issued large banknotes, and minted large-scale treasures, which caused chaos in currency values and soaring prices. He made his younger brother Ayurbarwada the Crown Prince, and agreed that the succession would be passed down from brother to brother, uncle to nephew, which became a hidden danger in future battles for the throne. He also indulged in drinking and debauchery, and died of illness in the first month of 1311 at the age of thirty-one.
